Introduction to GIS Using Open Source Software
This manual is used in the day-long GIS Practicum held at Baruch College, CUNY each semester and provides an introduction to GIS using QGIS. The workshop is only open to people affiliated with CUNY. The on-line manual is open to anyone for personal or classroom use under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial No Derivative Works License. The most recent version of the tutorial uses QGIS 2.18 Las Palmas.
Country Centroids and Codes
This ZIP file contains tab delimited text files with country centroids in latitude and longitude and FIPS and ISO codes (two-letter alpha) for the world’s countries and territories. Includes metadata. Extracted from the NGA GNS and the USGS GNIS in Feb 2012.
Average Distance to Nearest Public Library by State
This data was generated for an article entitled “Regional variations in average distance to public libraries in the United States” published in LISR in 2015. The data was generated using 2010 Census population counts at the block group level and locations of public libraries from the 2010 IMLS to calculate straight-line distances to the nearest public library in miles. See this post for more details. The data is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial No Derivative Works License.
